Happy Fertility Friday!
And welcome to this year-long series on inviting more compassion into your life.
After the first of the year, I perused back at my 2019 bullet journal and noticed several unmarked checks next to some important goals. Lo’ and behold, I started judging myself about it, and I realized “Holy cow! I need to dive deeper into self compassion!”
Compassion became personal goal to focus on in 2020, but then I realized what a state our world is in. I mean, there’s a pretty big lack of compassion in the world, wouldn’t you say? So, instead of keeping increased compassion a personal goal, I am inviting you along the journey as well.
Each week I will go over a new quote as indicated in the book A Year of Living with More Compassion, and I will produce a vlog for you, so you can practice along with me.
This is the first week of the series, and the quote we are reviewing is by the Dalai Lama:
“For someone to develop genuine compassion towards others, first he or she must have a basis upon which to cultivate compassion, and that basis is the ability to connect to one’s own feelings and to care for one’s own welfare…Caring for others requires caring for oneself.”
Here is the practice for this week: Notice moments when you are feeling stressed. Pause, place your hands over your heart and say “May I be happy and free from suffering.” Notice how you feel. Then focus on someone else (maybe someone who is part of the stressful situation; or not), keeping your hands on your heart, say “May you be happy and free from suffering.” Notice how you feel.
The vlog goes into more detail about this, including why compassion is important for your fertility (yes!). Watch or listen to the video, and I shall see you next Fertility Friday!
Be well,
-M
